PT I - THE BEGINNING
Chiaki was born in Nagano Prefecture, surrounded by lush mountains and peaceful villages. Her mother, Annika, was Swedish and moved to Japan for love, and she stayed when Chiaki's father disappeared from their lives when she was born. Her mother single-handedly raised her, working long hours as a chef in a small, family-run restaurant. The locals adored Annika for her vibrancy and laughter. It was acknowledged that her cooking can bring people together like magic.
Chiaki aspired to be like her mother, who was strong-willed and graceful. Their shared fondest moments involved experimenting with cooking recipes and baking together. Her world was simple, but it was all that was needed with the warmth that she received from her mother and the locals who constantly welcomed them.
Unfortunately, Chiaki’s reality was shattered when her mother became severely ill when she was at the age of 10 and passed away a year later. The couple who owned the restaurant that employed Annika, whom Chiaki closely referred to as Aunt Etsuko and Uncle Hiro, took her in to raise Chiaki as their own. She was taught resilience and compassion while also carrying her mother’s traits of kindness and strength. Chiaki spent her teenage years perfecting her culinary skills at her Aunt and Uncle’s restaurant in hopes of pursuing her dream to open a bakery in honor of her mother.
In Chiaki’s comfort, she would frequently visit Maruzen bookstore and indulge in manga. Her favorites include Bonjour Sweet Love Patisserie, Sweetness & Lightning, and Shokugeki no Soma, which fueled her passion for culinary arts. She also appreciated strong female protagonists in Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Claymore. During her leisure time, she enjoys outdoor ventures such as snowboarding and hiking. She naturally excelled at athletic sports such as volleyball, track, and swimming.
Academically, Chiaki was known as an overachiever and maintained her record as the top of her class. With her selfless nature, she would assist her classmates by holding tutoring sessions during exam weeks and was a lead organizer for her school’s festivals. She was admired by many and amassed a large social circle.
Although Chiaki built a favorable reputation in her small town village and amongst her school, she felt heaviness on her shoulders to uphold the high standards that were expected of her. She often pushed herself beyond limits and experienced a series of breakdowns. However, memories of her mother and how proud she would have been encouraged her to move forward.
Chiaki lived the rest of her adolescent years with the values to cherish every moment and to persevere through hard times.
Chiaki’s motto - a quote that was recited by her mother, Annika -
"不可能を可能にするのは努力だ!" (Fukanō o kanō ni suru no wa doryoku da)
~ "It is effort that makes the impossible possible!"
